DFT modeling approach for operational risk assessment of railway infrastructure

Abstract Reliability engineering of railway infrastructure aims to understand failure processes and improve the efficiency effectiveness investments maintenance planning such that a high quality service is achieved. While formal methods are widely used verify design specifications safety-critical components in train control, quantitative analyze reliability associated with specific system designs only starting emerge. In this paper, we strive advance use fault-tree modeling for providing assessment infrastructure’s phase. While, individually, most subsystems required route-setting control well understood, system’s globally provide its designated capacity less studied. To end, present framework based on dynamic fault trees allows routability paths projected interlocking system. We particularly focus dependency track-based assets as switches crossings, which prone failures due their being subject weather heavy wear. By using probabilistic model checking feasible route sets scheduled lines, performance metrics analysis whole criticality individual (sub-)components become available. The approach, has been previously discussed our paper at FMICS 2019, further refined, additional algorithmic approaches, settings application scenarios discussed.
